Chamber music in Spain (18th–21st centuries): Agents, repertoires, spaces

12–13 December 2024, Madrid
Faculty of Geography and History of the UCM.

Recent historiography has highlighted the value of this repertoire, which keeps being produced and consumed since the 18th century. In this context, this conference aims at approaching the repertoire from multiple standpoints. We thus invite you to submit your proposals by 15 July through the official form on the conference website. Preferent, yet not exclusive topics, are:

§ Analysis of the repertoire

§ Spaces in which the practice has taken place

§ Recovery of less know repertoire by Spanish composers

§ Reception of (Spanish and foreign) chamber repertoire in Spain

§ Reception of performance of Spanish repertoire abroad

§ Gender studies relating to composers, performers, and audiences

§ Interpersonal dynamics

§ Editorial market

§ Instruments

§ Musical recordings

All proposals must include:

§ Name(s) and affiliation(s)

§ Email address

§ Type of presentation

Abstract: max. 300 words for short papers and conference-recitals, max. 600 words for themed sessions. Supplementary materials, such as Figures or audio clips, can be uploaded.

§ 3-5 keywords

§ Technical requirements

The types of presentation are

§ Short papers (20 mins + 10 mins Q&A)

§ Themed sessions (3 or 4 20-min papers + 30 mins Q&A)

Multi-authored (up to 4 authors) papers are allowed. All presentations will be given on site.

Proposals will be reviewed anonymously, and acceptance decisions will be made by 1 September 2024. Official languages of the conference are Spanish and English. The basic fee is €50 and, for bachelor or master students, €40.
