Why This Symposium Matters
In an era of growing multiculturalism and global movement, the roles of creativity and cultural exchange are more significant than ever. Migration often brings questions of belonging, identity negotiation, and cultural tension, which can profoundly affect individuals and communities.
This symposium provides a unique platform to confront contentious socio-cultural issues such as assimilation, isolation, and homogeneity. It also celebrates the potential of music and creativity to foster dialogue, inclusion, and understanding. Your contributions can help shape this critical conversation, bringing fresh insights into these complex dynamics.
Event Highlights
Unconference Format:
A participatory and adaptable structure, fostering collaborative discussions rather than traditional presentations. Participants will explore themes in small group sessions, rotating between topics and contributing to plenary discussions that synthesise ideas.
Interdisciplinary Focus:
Engage with themes such as migration, identity, integration, and creativity, informed by research and lived experiences.
Live Performances:
Enjoy performances by artists featured in Dr Amin Hashemi’s Leverhulme Fellowship research, showcasing musical and cultural diversity from across the UK.
Community and Collaboration:
This event builds a community of scholars and practitioners committed to exploring migration’s role in shaping culture and identity.
Join us in Aberdeen this spring to challenge assumptions, exchange ideas, and explore the transformative potential of creativity in a multicultural world.
We look forward to your contributions and to welcoming you to what promises to be a thought-provoking and inspiring event!
