the Conservatory “Santa Cecilia” in Rome, “San Pietro a Majella” in Naples and “Benedetto Marcello” in Venice organizing the International Conference
This “multi-city conference” is devoted to Niccolò Jommelli (1714-1774), famous Aversa composer and “lovable and powerful magician”, in the 250th anniversary of his death. The conference wishes to explore the most significant moments in Jommelli’s life and career, according to an interdisciplinary perspective, and aims to arouse a wide debate about the meaning and the impact of Jommelli’s artistic production in his time.
The committee encourages speeches and reflections in the following thematic areas:
Jommelli’s theatrical, sacred and instrumental works;
patronage, contexts and dissemination of Jommelli’s works;
the impact of Jommelli’s works on the musical writing of his day;
Jommelli and his time;
performers, theatrical apparatus and productions at the time of Niccolò Jommelli;
Jommelli’s reception from the 19th century up to the present;
Please submit an abstract of no more than 1500 characters (spaces included) and a biography (maximum length 500 characters, spaces included). The deadline for submitting proposals is 15 June 2024. Accepted proposals will be notified by 30 June 2024.
