Abu abdalah Muhammad ben Ahmad ben Yusuf

Mathématicien. Il vit à la cour de Nuh II. Son œuvre s'inscrit dans la tradition des traducteurs de sanskrit. Son traité, que nous ne connaissons que par des traductions latines du XII^esiècle, est le premier témoignage sur l'emploi de ces chiffres dans une opération arithmétique. Il attribue cette invention à l'Inde. Il est à l'origine de la tradition des « calculs indiens » (al-hisab al-hindi) qu'on appela « algorythme » au Moyen Âge, en raison de son nom. Le 7e chapitre est consacré à la musique.

Son Encyclopédie des arts et des sciences divisé en deux discours.

1. Sciences natives. Lois religieuses, théologie, prosodie, histoire.

2. Sciences étrangères. Philosophie, logique, médecine, arithmétique, géométrie, musique, mécanique, alchimie. Le 7e chapitre est consacré à la musique. 1-Les instruments ; 2-éléments de musique ; 3-Rythmes et modes rythmiques.
