Migration, Performance, and Policy Study Day
26 November, 2026, Osford
Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities
University of Oxford
We are seeking participants for an interdisciplinary study day that explores the nexus between migration policy and performance. This in-person study day is the culmination of a seminar series involving social scientists and humanities scholars that want to think together, beyond the questions and methods that dominate their own fields.
Presenters will offer 10-minute research 'lightning talks', concluding with a single provocation for discussion. These must respond to one of two questions:
1. What can performance and performativity teach us about migration policies? How?
2. What do migration policies teach us about performance in public and political discourse? How?
The study day is free to attend and will include showings of documentary extracts and live performances. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Attendees are responsible for covering their own travel expenses and accommodation.
