Cultural Exchanges: Music Between Latin America and Europe

The VI SIM_UFRJ “Cultural Exchanges: Music Between Latin America and Europe” proposes to approach this theme in broad scope of diverse cultural traditions, contexts and historical times, and of special interest of the International Colloquium IAI / UdK is to increase knowledge of the "Trajectories of art music in Latin America, 1945-1970." Discussion issues: cultural dialogues, circulation, transfer and appropriation of ideas, repertories, aesthetics, styles, techniques, musical practices and ideologies; music and artistic or cultural ruptures; representation and cultural translation; migration, exile and travel; identity, otherness, nationalism and exoticism; culture, society and politics; interdisciplinary studies: visual arts, theatre, literature, philosophy, history, sociology and cultural anthropology; heritage and collections; institutional policies of scientific, artistic and cultural exchange between Latin America and Europe; discursive strategies in the relationship betwe en art and science; knowledge and power.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Proposals (paper about 3,000 to 6,000 words, and a short bio) may be written in Portuguese, Spanish, English, German, French or Italian, and submitted as attached file (*.doc or *.rtf) by e-mail to sim -at- musica.ufrj.br. Although the proceedings are published in paper's original language, it is highly recommended that oral presentations be in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

Cy, du superbe folk acadien en ouverture de la Semaine acadienne à Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer

Les Acadiens ont débarqué au moins deux fois en Normandie, à Cherbourg, trois vaisseaux de déportés du « Grand Dérangement » en 1759. La seconde fois en 1944 sur Juno Beach avec les contingents canadiens. Et depuis dix maintenant, à Saint-Aubin et Courseulles, la semaine acadienne vient chaque mois d'août célébrer les cousins d'Acadie, à l'est du Québec, en chansons, histoires et charivari...

Ce dimanche, à Saint-Aubin, le groupe folk Cy (prononcer saill') ouvrait les festivités dans la salle Aubert, à l'acoustique de bonne qualité. Un peu de Crosby, Still, Nash and Young, dans les harmonies vocales et les guitares, un peu de Beau Dommage aussi, les grands frères québécois. Mais aussi leurs mots, leur accent bien particulier, leur musique, leur jeunesse et leur envie de jouer.

Samedi 1er août, nous vivons un autre moment exceptionnel dans la cour du château d'Empéri. Le mistral qui souffle habituellement fort – il cause quelques soucis aux partitions malgré les pinces à linge et les fils lestés de poids pour en maintenir les pages — était presque en repos, offrant aux auditeurs une meilleure condition d'écoute.

La première partie du concert est consacrée au trio pour flûte, violoncelle et piano de Bohuslav Martinů et le quintette pour clarinette et cordes en si mineur opus 115 de Brahms. Emmanuel Pahud, Aurélien Pascal et Éric Le Sage insufflent à l'œuvre du compositeur tchèque, méconnue du grand public, une grande élégance dans le 2^e mouvement, et un caractère espiègle pour la partie Allegretto scherzando du troisième mouvement.

The 20th Quinquennial Congress of the International Musicological Society

The 20th Congress of the International Musicological Society will be held in Tokyo, Japan, from Sunday, March 19, to Thursday, March 23, 2017. All musicologists and researchers in related fields (including non-members of IMS) are cordially invited to participate. Please read the information under “Submission Guidelines” before proceeding to online submission.

Categories of presentation: Proposals are invited for free papers, roundtables, and study sessions. The Program Committee seeks free papers that reflect current research as broadly as possible. Each free paper is allotted 30 minutes, with 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for Q&A. Roundtables are to focus exclusively on topics relevant to the theme of the Congress (see below). The length of each roundtable is 120 minutes, including Q&A and discussion. Study sessions are more “informal” in nature, providing an opportunity for scholars to exchange ideas on the issues, methodologies, and research frameworks of a given topic while opening the discussion to all Congress participants. Preference will be given to proposals addressing the theme of the Congress from international and interdisciplinary perspectives. The length of each study session is limited to 90 minutes, including Q&A and discussion.

Languages: The official languages of the Congress will be English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Please note, however, that only proposals in English will be accepted.

Theme: The theme of the 2017 Congress is “Musicology: Theory and Practice, East and West.”

Deadlines: All proposals must be submitted online between December 1, 2015 and January 15, 2016, to be considered. Please note that there is a significant time difference between Japan and many parts of the globe. Successful applicants will be notified by email no later than April 30, 2016.
